Come to one of these FREE clinics at Bergen Regional Medical Center to get vaccinated. This is the best way to keep ourselves and our communities safe and healthy in the New Year. Clinics are open to all people 16 years of age or older who are not pregnant. Anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Pre-registration is required by calling 201.967.4010 Monday-Friday between 9am-1pm. Only 500 vaccines can be administered per clinic so reserve your spot as soon as possible and no later than January 20, 2010.

Free Community Health Fairs

Community Health Fair • Tuesday, May 19, 2009 • 10am-2pm

Mental Health Fair • Tuesday, May 19, 2009 • 6pm-8pm

The Foundation at Bergen Regional Medical Center will sponsor free community health fairs for the public in the auditorium of the Medical Center on Tuesday, May 19 from 10am-2pm and 6pm-8pm.

From 10am-2pm, representatives from the hospital’s Outpatient Ambulatory Clinic will be on hand for the event to answer questions about the hospital’s 21 ambulatory clinical specialty services. Information regarding healthcare coverage options for uninsured or underinsured New Jersey residents will also be available. Free blood pressure and blood glucose screenings will be offered to visitors, as well as free lung volume tests and other screenings and educational information. Representatives will be available from Bergen Regional’s Long Term Care Division to answer questions regarding long term care, respite care, hospice and other related topics.

That same day from 6pm-8pm in the auditorium of Bergen Regional, there will be a mental health fair offered to the community that will feature depression screenings for both adolescents and adults, information regarding addiction services and other behavioral health services and programs offered at the hospital. Marion Jacobs Kahn, famed author of the book ‘Child of Madness’ will be on hand to meet those who attend.

There will be give-a-ways, door prizes and light refreshments at both health fairs.

“There are so many services that the Medical Center offers that people just don’t know about,” said Joseph S. Orlando, President of BRMC. “We are happy to open our doors and invite the public to learn what they may not know about Bergen Regional and more importantly, offer some very important health screenings, tests and educational information to our community.”

“It is important to us that we are a community partner here in Bergen County and that we are available to help provide our neighbors critical health care services,” said Orlando.

(Paramus, NJ) Bergen Regional Medical Center (BRMC) continues to respond to the state wide blood shortage by hosting another blood drive at the Medical Center on January 22, 2009, from 11 am-1:30 pm in the Auditorium of building six.

Community Blood Services of Paramus will be on site at the Medical Center to draw and collect the blood. Light refreshments will be served.

Community Blood Services provides blood and blood products to more than 30 hospitals in New Jersey and New York State.

Bergen Regional to Host Complimentary Symposium on
Long Term Care.

(Paramus, NJ) Bergen Regional Medical Center (BRMC), whose Long Term Care (LTC) Division is the largest licensed nursing home in New Jersey, will be hosting a symposium in the Medical Center’s Auditorium on November 5, 2008, 9am -1pm, to address treatment options for LTC residents with behavioral symptoms.

This complimentary symposium is being sponsored and fully funded by the Foundation at Bergen Regional Medical Center allowing for those physicians, nurses, residents and students interested in participating to do so at no charge.

“This symposium is an example of Bergen Regional’s continued commitment to both engaging our colleagues in the medical community and bettering ourselves in our service to our patients,” said BRMC President Heather Aaron.

The conference will be led by BRMC’s Medical Director of Long Term Care, Dr. Michael Nevins, and will begin with a detailed analysis of how LTC residents at Bergen Regional are treated. Presentations and discussions led by experts in several related fields will follow. Participating will be: Robert Zorowitz, MD, MBA, CMD, Medical Director of Village Nursing Home and Village Care PACE; Ellen Flaherty, PhD, RN, GNP-BC, VP of Quality Improvement for Village Care of NY, and Judith L. Beizer, PharmD, CGP, FASCP, Clinical Professor at St. John’s University’s College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions.

Panelists will focus on off-label use of atypical antipsychotic drugs for LTC residents and will explore the issue of over medication of the geriatric population.

Bergen Regional Medical Center will be hosting a health fair for our community on Saturday, October 25, 2008 from 10am-2pm in the Medical Center’s Gymnasium. Blood pressure checks, glucose testing, lung volume tests, incentive spirometry and educational and informative information regarding heart health, breast cancer, behavioral health and long term care issues will be addressed. Light refreshments will be available.

*Bergen Regional Medical Center will accept Medicare Part B, (Traditional Medicare) Cash, or Check for flu vaccines ($25). We do NOT accept Medicare HMO or any other insurance.

Bergen Regional Medical Center Hosting Drive for Center for Food Action

(Paramus, NJ) In response to a reported shortage at local food collection centers and after a successful summer drive, Bergen Regional Medical Center (BRMC) is again collecting food items to help the hungry in the area.

Donations will benefit the Center for Food Action, the Englewood-based group that provides more than 40,000 7-day emergency food packages for neighbors in need from 90 towns throughout Bergen County and upper Passaic Valley.

“As a community-minded hospital,” said BRMC President Heather Aaron, “Bergen Regional is proud to host this food drive, and we urge members of our community to join our efforts and bring requested food items to our facility so that we can deliver them to the Center for Food Action.”

Food collection at BRMC will take place between October 1 and October 31 at a marked box in front of the hospital’s main entrance. Needed items include: low sugar cereal; peanut butter and jelly; canned meat and tuna; macaroni and cheese; canned fruit and vegetables; spaghetti sauce; 100% juice; diapers; infant formula and baby food; Ensure, and dental hygiene products.

This summer, BRMC collected more than 50 bags of food for the Center for Food Action. For the fall drive, the medical center is hoping to double that total.

The BRMC 9/11 Memorial is one of the only sites that list the names of all those lost in the terrorist attacks that occurred on 9/11/01. It was built by BRMC employees and friends in 2004 . 15th Annual Golf & Tennis Classic

The Harlem Wizards camp is for a wide audience with any level of skill; from the novice to the school's star player. Boys and Girls 7-15 are invited to the full week session (9am–3:30pm), and ages 5-6 are invited for Jr. Wizards Camp (full week 9am–12:30pm).

The Wizards wisely combine teaching, hard work and discipline, with unforgettable fun! The players on the team have genuine appreciation and enthusiasm for teaching children and teens the game of basketball. The dancing competition is one of the many activities offered, in our Long Term Care division, designed to enhance our residents’ quality of life while reminding them that they are the true stars of BRMC.
