Lois HorowitzThe Foundation at Bergen Regional Medical Center would not exist were it not for the efforts and dedication of Lois Horowitz. Lois was the founder of the Foundation for the then Bergen Pines Hospital. She served as the Foundation’s Executive Director in addition to her duties as the Hospital’s Director of Public Relations and Volunteer Services. During her tenure with the Foundation, Lois was instrumental in raising over two million in donations of money and services. She established the first public relations programs; designed the Wall of Inspiration and Book of Life fundraising mechanisms; created the hospitals first gift shop; created and supervised a campaign to restore the hospital’s historic 1930 gazebo. Lois also coordinated, designed and helped raise funding for the building of the only Horticultural Therapy Greenhouse in a Bergen County hospital or any county hospital in the state. She designed the first Audio Visual Library in a hospital with support of The Lions Club of Paramus. Lois started the first “Puppy Pal Program” using dogs in therapy at BPCH from the “Seeing Eye Program” in Morristown.” With the support of the Honorable. Governor Kean and the New Jersey Assembly, she was able to design and establish a pension buy-back program for all employees in BPCH and employees in county hospitals throughout the state.

A graduate of Parsons School of Design and Rutgers University CPM program, she was able to use her creativity and management skills in many ways. From 1974-76 she amassed 5,000 volunteers and raised the funds to save the Garretson Forge and Farm Restoration in Fair Lawn, now an historic site in New Jersey and a museum open to all. Lois was on the Cultural Commission for Bergen County and was the first and only Assistant Director of Cultural and Historic Affairs for Bergen County.
